How about turning off Arc length control?

Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Beca

In my experience for example a stage of changing the stiffness of structures due to corrosion would potentially lead to this error. For this situation, slightly changing a load in the model (e. g. surchage) would resolve.

Assistant Manager (Geotechnical) — RITES Limited

It can also be a case where the structure (or the foundation) is just failing under the load.

Glad to share another paper concerning the #publicsafety and #structuralengineering . The paper entitled Spatial wind speed interpolation using Isoparametric shape functions for structural loading. This study developed a spatial interpolation technique using Isoparametric finite element shape functions to derive wind speed records for all unsampled Kansas counties from actual data recorded at 17 city locations within and around Kansas. A computational method using the Kaimal spectrum is presented for generating artificial time histories of wind speeds. This is done to extract wind-cycle distribution using the Rainflow counting technique, which can be used as input for fatigue analysis procedures of highway sign structures. Comprehensive validation, verification and benchmarking has been performed in this paper at all spatial and time span levels to guarantee the accuracy and efficiency of the algorithm developed. The comparison of the validation measures strongly suggests a very accurate interpolation scheme that can be confidently used in further fatigue computations and analysis. A user-friendly software was designed using C# to extract wind-speed cycles for all Kansas counties related to different time spans. This software is expected to facilitate fatigue-life prediction because it generates a full range of wind-loading. An artistic portrayal of streamlines appeared on the November 1989 cover of JPT linked with SPE-18327-PA (https://lnkd.in/dM9WzH39) titled «Fractal Methods Improve Mitsue Miscible Predictions.» The authors innovatively merged 2D streamtubes with 2D cross-sections to simulate a WAG displacement and model field performance. Given the limited computational resources available 34 years ago, combining aerial and vertical 2D displacement efficiencies was a promising approach to quantify the 3D field recovery efficiency. A significant change from 1989, streamlines today are fully 3D and able to accommodate fine scale-geological descriptions and 3-phase flow physics that accounts for fluid compressibility, gravity, and capillary pressure. However, the idea of deconvoluting the 3D problem still holds. The 3D streamlines are updated to capture the non-linearities in the flow field due to well changes, such as rate adjustments, opening, closing, changing completions, and new wells coming online and 1D numerical solutions along individual streamlines solve the relevant transport problem. Streamlines also provide key dynamic well pattern metrics that empower engineers to quickly enhance flood performance given available surface resources. #reservoirengineering #eor #reservoircharacterization #reservoirsimulation #reservoirengineer

#ImplcitvsExplicit #Part2 6. Implicit analysis might be chosen for a structural analysis project when the loading conditions change gradually, and inertia effects are negligible. For example, if you want to analyze the long-term behavior of a tall building under wind loads, where the wind forces change slowly over time, and the mass of the building is much larger than the applied loads, implicit analysis would be appropriate. 7. The key characteristic of explicit analysis is that it is suitable for dynamic and rapidly changing events. It is capable of capturing the transient response of a structure accurately. Examples of such events include impact loading, blast analysis, and crash simulations. 8. The main difference between implicit and explicit analysis lies in their time integration approach. In implicit analysis, the assumption of quasi-static equilibrium allows for solving the equilibrium equations at each time step. This approach is computationally efficient since it requires fewer time steps. On the other hand, explicit analysis models the dynamic response over time by integrating the equations of motion numerically. This explicit time integration accounts for the dynamic behavior of the structure and allows for capturing rapid changes accurately. 9. A real-world application for implicit analysis would be the structural stability analysis of a building under constant loads. For example, studying the long-term behavior of a high-rise building under gravity loads or analyzing the deformation of a dam under the constant pressure of water would require implicit analysis. 10. The impact on computational requirements and solution accuracy is that implicit analysis generally requires fewer time steps, making it computationally efficient for certain scenarios. Since it assumes quasi-static equilibrium, it sacrifices some accuracy in capturing dynamic behavior. On the other hand, explicit analysis provides a more accurate representation of dynamic events but at the expense of increased computational cost due to the need for smaller time steps. It is important to choose the appropriate analysis method based on the specific requirements of the problem at hand.

FLOW-3D (X) can combine automation with optimization to quickly meet the design objectives. The simulation represents a simple overflow weir with the activation of the sediment transport model to simulate sediment transportation. The optimization goal here is to decide upon weir opening dimensions that result in maximum volume flow rate and minimum scouring of sediment bed. A budget of 30 iterations is specified. FLOW-3D (x) runs 30 simulations to generate a response surface that represents the behavior of the system. This allows the best solution to be found. FLOW-3D (X) Workflow and results can be seen in the video. Optimization simulation by CFD software FLOW-3D HYDRO & and automation software FLOW-3D (x) for water moving with small particles across screen channels. #flow3d #elrefay #water #hydro #hydrodynamics #particles #screen #moving

Hello, , Attention to All Hydrodynamics & Water Experts We want to share our last simulation by CFD software FLOW-3D HYDRO and the optimization software FLOW-3D (x) for water moving across screen channels. We made 2 lines of screens: the first line is for preventing small particles from moving through the channels, and the second line is to ensure no smaller particles will move. The porosity for all screens in the first line is 0.75 and for the second line, it is 0.25 There are multiple particles moving, whose diameter differs from (0.2 to 1) the objective of the optimization is to change the porosity for all screens in the first line to minimize the number of particles after the first line of screens. What can we do for this simulation to prevent the existing particles after the second line of screens? #flow3d #elrefay #water #hydro #hydrodynamics #particles #screen #moving
